Belgian filmmaker and artist Nicolas Provost - above you can watch an excerpt of his visually stunning Long Live the New Flesh - has always been a very welcome presence at the Milano Film Festival. His disturbing and visually fascinating narrative short films Exoticore and Induction were in competition in 2005 and 2007, as well as the cinematic hommage Gravity (2008) and Stardust, his last effort, which was our staff’ choice for last 2010 edition. Four presences plus one: he joined the feature film competition Jury in 2009 (and this was their choice).

The wonderful news is that Provost at the moment is shooting his first feature film, L’Ehvahisseur (The Invader), which comes back to the theme of illegal immigration as seen by the perspective of an African guy in Bruxelles. As for Exoticore and Induction, statuesque Issaka Sawadogo from Burkina Faso is the main actor, together with Italian actress Stefania Rocca, whom presence could be a good chance to see this film released in Italy.

Good cinematic luck to Nicolas Provost!

David Michôd is a talented director and screenwriter from Australia.

In his short films he revealed great sensibility in exploring the loneliness of kids grew up in disrupted families, without giving up on creating extremely turbid and erotic moments (Crossbow) or lightly ironic dad-son relationships (Netherland Dwarf).

After receiving a limited release in the United States, Michôd’ long-awaited first feature, Animal Kingdom, is out now in Italy. Don’t miss it.
